The third generation checking out new forestry equipment in our forest at Penrhos

Alex Evans at Penrhos

Meet Alex Evans who will be one of the third generation of the family to serve the mill when he joins us after finishing some exams and undertaking a forestry course at Walford College in Baschurch also known as North Shropshire College.

It’s no co-incidence that he has been photographed near a large piece of brand new forestry machinery – a passion for anything mechanical and an interest in how things work seems to run in the genes! (As does mountain biking – see the picture below taken on the Long Mynd near our Bishop’s Castle Mill.)

The forest, which is at Penrhos in Powys, just across the border from our mill, is producing Douglas Fir in 3m and 4.8m lengths which will be converted in short order to 2.4m and 3m posts. It’s as well our forest management programme includes provision for appropriate replanting: timber has been flying out of the yard on a unprecedented scale in the last few months so a plentiful supply of logs is essential!
